This once dark and antiquated home has undergone a complete architectural turnover, evolving into a radiant home full of simplicity, warmth, and abundant natural light.

Beginning with Design Director Lucas Goldbach's vision of infusing simplicity, modesty, and ample light into the Bucktown condo, the initial state of the home called for vast modifications. The loft, barely functional, would be reinvented, and the outdated kitchen would be replaced with a stylish and functional centerpiece.

The renovation was focused on modernizing the space while preserving its original character. The attic level, previously neglected, found new purpose with the creation of two bedroom suites, elegantly integrated with the lower level's entertainment spaces. Cleverly designed cased openings maintain an open feel while discreetly separating rooms, facilitate fluid movement throughout the home.

“The space was a white box that we lived with, got to know, and then filled with a mix of vintage and new items.”

- Lucas Goldbach

A hallmark of this renovation is the seamless integration of light. Skylights dance across the space, working harmoniously with white oak floors to amplify natural illumination. The staircase, crowned by a skylight, draws light into the heart of the home. The design process unfolded organically, with the incorporation of vintage pieces and a color palette reminiscent of the vibrant 70s, resulting in a joyful and character-rich environment.

The dining room emerged as a focal point, embracing the essence of hospitality and warmth. Awash in a captivating peachy-pink hue, this space embodies cozy gatherings and intimate soirées. Thoughtful design elements, such as a long banquette and an oval wood table, create an ambiance of comfort and camaraderie.

The project's success is rooted in overcoming challenges, including working within the existing roof structure and maximizing space in the sloping attic area. A central "spine" hallway provides circulation under the highest part of the roof, while ingenious storage solutions make the most of lower ceilings. Skylights illuminate bathrooms with a sense of tranquility, invoking the sensation of being nestled in a treehouse.
